About Northern Heartwoods

My story as a woodworker began when I was a child. I grew up in a house that was almost constantly being built and added-onto by my father. My dad involved me in basically every project and addition to our home, and by the time I was strong enough to swing a hammer I was building walls right alongside him. Building walls is one thing, but much greater precision is needed to actually finish a room. The room will only look as good as the effort and focus you put into it; these finishing touches are what sparked my passion for fine woodworking.

Throughout junior high and high school I took every woodshop class that I could. I experimented a lot with different woods, and I fell in love with the variety of colors and grain patterns found in our native hardwoods. After high school and some years of college, I applied for a job at a local tree service. Within the first month of working with trees, I came to the realization that all of the material I love to work with is growing right in our backyards!

Today, I am a professional arborist and bandsaw mill operator, with a heartfelt passion for working with trees and wood. I feel strongly about giving trees a second life in the form of usable material, and I strive to produce the most unique lumber and wood slabs on the market.
